Collinsville scored twice in the fourth quarter and Mattoon later fumbled on its final possession in the Green Wave’s 28-22 loss Friday night at EIU’s O’Brien Stadium.
Trailing 28-14 in the fourth quarter, Mattoon had scored when Jackson Spurgeon tossed a 40-yards TD pass to Slater Trier with 6 1/2 minutes left in the game.
The scored was tied 8-8 at halftime.
After Collinsville scored to go ahead 15-7 in the third quarter, Derrius White caught his second touchdown pass of the game, making it 15-14. The two-point conversion failed.
White caught six passes overall for 120 yards while Spurgeon threw for three TDs and 197 yards.
Mattoon is now 2-3, Collinsville is 5-0.
