Kahoks Score Three In Bottom Of First, But Highland Scores In Fourth Through Seventh To Win Opener

COLLINSVILLE - Collinsville's girls softball team got off on the right foot by scoring three times in the opening inning, but Highland scored all of its runs in the fourth through seventh innings to take an 11-3 win over the Kahoks in the season opener for both teams Monday afternoon at the Collinsville Sports Complex.

Collinsville jumped out to a 3-0 lead with their three-run opening inning, but the Bulldogs scored twice in the fourth, four times in the fifth to take the lead, then added three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh for their winning margin.

Brylee Anderton and Lexi Rafalowski both had two hits each to lead Collinsville, while Allix Jakich and Brianna Wellen both had a hit each, with Wellen having the only RBI of the day for the Kahoks.

Breanna Habermehl, Maci Miles, Sophie Parkerson, Madalyn Trauernicht and Emma Strubinger all had two hits each for Highland, with Trauernicht hitting a home run and driving home three runs, while Kelly Fuller, Maggie Grohmann, Alli Koerkenmeier and Grace Levin all had hits. Grohmann and Levin both drove in a pair of runs, while Fuller, Habermehl, Koerkenmeier and Strubinger each drove in a single run.

Sophia Donoho went all the way in the circle for the Bulldogs, allowing three runs on four hits, one earned, while walking four batters and striking out six. Marissa Thomas was Collinsville's starting pitcher and went five-and-a-third innings, allowing three runs on four hits, with two earned, walked two batsmen and fanned three. Maya Clark went the final inning-and-two-thirds, allowing seven runs on 10 hits, three earned, while walking one and striking out another batter.

The Bulldogs open the season 1-0, while the Kahoks are now 0-1. Collinsville is at Mascoutah on Thursday afternoon, with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch, then host Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin Catholic in a doubleheader at home on... Click here to read full article
