Kahoks Score 13 Runs In Decisive Fifth Inning, Defeats Mascoutah 14-3 In First Softball Win

MASCOUTAH - Collinsville's softball team broke open a close game by scoring 13 runs in the fifth inning to help give the Kahoks a 14-3 win over Mascoutah in a game played Thursday afternoon at Mascoutah High School.

Katie Bardwell and Brylee Anderton each hit a grand slam home run in the decisive fifth inning to help the Kahoks go on to the win. Mackenzie Young also hit a two-run double during the fifth. Marissa Thompson and Allix Jakich also drove in runs in the fifth inning.

Collinsville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second before the Indians scored twice in the home half of the third to take the lead. The Kahoks then exploded for their 13-run fifth inning before Mascoutah scored a run in the last of the fifth as the game was called because of the 10-run rule with Collinsville taking the win.

Anderton's grand slam was a part of a four hit, four RBI day at the plate for the Kahoks, while Maddie Harris and Brianna Wellen both had three hits on the day, Bardwell's grand slam was a part of her two hit, four RBI performance, Thomas had two hits and a RBI, Lexi Rafalowski had a pair of hits, Young came with wit a hit and two RBIs, Jakich had a hit and a RBI and Maya Clark also drove home a run.

Both Thomas and Clark struck out two batters in the circle, with Thomas going three innings to get the win, allowing two runs on two hits on the day.

Mascoutah is now 0-2 on the young season, while the Kahoks go to 1-1 and host a doubleheader against Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin Catholic on Saturday, with the first game starting at 11 a.m. Collinsville then plays at Civic Memorial on Monday afternoon, then hosts Freeburg Wednesda...
